Core argument of Shiva Purana

Core argument of Shiva Purana is that Lord Shiva is the supreme reality who creates, sustains, and dissolves universe. It upholds devotion to Shiva (Bhakti), self-realization, and righteous living as the path to spiritual fulfilment. It is based on six major themes. First, it describes Shiva as the eternal source of creation, preservation, and destruction of the universe. Second, it considers Shiva as the supreme reality (Brahman) beyond form and qualities. However, it may manifest itself in different forms. Thirds, it emphasises that the liberation may be achieved through worship, chanting, meditation, and rituals towards Shiva. Fourth, it also stresses on ethics & Dharma. It holds that righteous living, compassion, and detachment from material desires are essential for spiritual growth. It depicts different stages of life of Shiva through stories on his Cosmic dance (Tandava), his marriage with Parvati, the birth of Ganesha and Kartikeya, and conflicts with demons. It emphasises on fulfilling basic household obligations through these stories and presents Shiva as a form who balances both his religious duties and household responsibilities. It explains the significance of lingam worship, pilgrimage to holy sites, observance of fasts, and recitation of mantras.
